Danielle Steel entered the art community as an avid and passionate collector. Although her personal collection includes both illlustrious names and the work of younger unknowns, her greatest interest is in emerging contemporary artists and those in the process of establishing themselves. She has enjoyed collecting so much that her passion has evolved into a gallery, where she can bring to others the joy she herself experiences from the work she finds. Best known as a writer, Steel is the best-selling author of 86 books. She is the winner of numerous awards, both for her writing and for her work with the mentally ill. In 2002, she was made an ‘Officer’ of the Order of Arts and Letters, a decoration awarded by the French government for lifetime achievement and contributions to world culture, and one of the highest honors bestowed. Steel founded and runs two foundations involved with mental illness - most notably the Nick Traina Foundation, established in honor of her late son. She also works with the homeless and does individual peer counseling for families who have lost children. Danielle Steel’s dedication to the causes she supports is profound. She believes strongly in her new endeavor, helping emerging artists establish themselves and introducing exciting new work to a San Francisco Bay Area audience. She brings to it a fresh eye, an open mind, a lively heart, and a sense of fun.
