Keys to the Door: Owner Danielle Steel, director Dana DeKalb.

Stocked Goods: A quick stroll through the exquisite home of Danielle Steel, our resident grand dame of romance has always revealed the author's keen artistic eye. Now Steel is going public with her aesthetic, tapping Dana DeKalb, formerly of the Hackett-Freedman Gallery, to man her art space. Steel's personal collection includes works by many of the artists represented by her gallery, including the Bay Area's Tina Lauren Vietmeier, James Jarrett and Brigitte McReynolds and New York scuptor Charles Price. Pieces by these artists and by Brazilian painter and sculptor Silvia Poloto are featured in the gallery's inaugural exhibition, on view through December 6. "We are looking for an overall feeling, rather than trying to show art from any particular region," notes DeKalb. "The idea is to keep work accessible both in price and aesthetic, with a bright, upbeat feel. There's no angst here."
